Reflection on 2019

2019 has been a surprising year for me. While I failed miserably in some of my goals, I did more than awesome with my FIRE targets for this year.

BaristaFI

Funds required for BaristaFI as of December 2019:

June 2018: 17L
August 2018: 15.5L
September 2018: 15.4L
January 2019: 15L
March 2019: 14.8L
August 2019: 9.5L
December 2019: 5.1L

This was a good year as I could pump a lot into my BaristaFI / retirement goal. I know that 2020 is going to be different and I won’t be able to pump as much as I could in 2019.

The idea of BaritaFI’s goal was to save an amount and forget about it. That becomes a cushion that can grow on its own if I don’t touch it for the next 20-30 years. I’ll be set for my retirement years. Although I don’t think our generation will retire but that’s for another discussion.

This also means that very soon I’ll need a new goal. I’ll update you guys once I’m done with my current goal.

Intermittent Fasting and Weight Loss

I started intermittent fasting back in 2018 and it’s been a lifestyle change for me. I started it because I was gaining weight and becoming heftier day by day. I knew I needed to do something and had been working out but wasn’t losing weight as I hadn’t made any changes in my diet. The typical diets wouldn’t have worked for me. As I read more about IF I knew it was for me. I didn’t like eating breakfast and skipping breakfast would put me in 16:8 schedule easily. Schbang!

However, after a year of IF with 16:8, I have hit a plateau. I still need to lose 10Kgs and my weight hasn’t moved in the last 3-4 months. I need to change something, either try out a 20:4 or OMAD. I might start with my new schedule by the second week of Jan as I’m traveling in the first week.

Book Reading

I only read 15 books this year. I typically read at least 20-22 books and have failed miserably in this target. The reason being I had to do a lot of work travel and that’s exhausting. I could have read in flight but I preferred catching up on my sleep instead. It’s not a decision I regret.

I also had a target of reading more fiction and I failed miserably there as well. I only read one fiction book this year. I would like to do better next year.

I know what needs to be changed for the next year and I’ll finalize my goals for next year in a couple of days. I like having a target, it gives me a feeling of working towards something.

Did you achieve all your goals in 2019? What are your goals for next year?
